In a lot of Triangle neighborhoods — Chapel Hill especially — the trees are the property. Mature hardwoods, tall pines, established shrub beds. A wrapped trunk or a lit canopy changes a display from "lights on a house" to a place that glows.

We wrap trunks, canopies, porch columns, hedges and shrub beds, and we bring the lift for the tall ones. Everything uses the same commercial-grade LED strands as our roofline work, custom-fit so the wrap looks intentional rather than wound on.

How it works

Walk the yard

We look at the trees and shrubs with you — which ones carry the display, how high to wrap, and how the greenery pairs with the roofline. Height and spread drive the light count, so this is where the design gets honest.

Wrap

Trunks get tight, evenly spaced spirals; canopies get strands worked out along the limbs. For anything beyond ladder height we bring the lift, which is faster and far safer than climbing with a strand in one hand.

Power and timers

Wrapped trees are powered from hidden runs along beds and edging, tied into the same timer setup as the rest of the display so everything comes on together.

Unwrap in January

Removal is as careful as the install — strands come off without yanking through branches, get boxed, labeled and stored for next season.

What it costs

Tree work is priced on height, spread and access. A six-foot trunk wrap is a modest add-on; a thirty-foot hardwood canopy with lift time is its own project. Shrubs and hedges sit in between, priced by the bed.

The biggest cost driver is how high you want the wrap to go — every additional ten feet of trunk or canopy adds material and time roughly in proportion. The most effective designs usually concentrate on one or two specimen trees done well rather than every tree in the yard done thin. Your quote will break tree work out from the roofline so you can see exactly what each element costs.

How tall a tree can you wrap?

With the lift, we routinely wrap trunks and lower canopies in the 25–35 foot range, which covers most mature Triangle hardwoods and pines. Beyond that it depends on the tree's shape and where the lift can sit. At the design visit we'll tell you exactly what's reachable on your property and what's not worth attempting.

Can wrapping hurt the tree?

Not the way we do it. Strands are wrapped with room for growth — snug enough to stay put, never cinched — and LEDs run cool, so there's no heat against the bark. Lights go up in fall and come down in January, so nothing stays on the tree through a growing season. We also avoid wrapping young or stressed trees and will tell you if one should sit the season out.

How many lights does a tree actually take?

More than most people expect — that's the honest answer. A trunk wrap to ten feet can take a few hundred bulbs depending on trunk diameter and spacing, and a full canopy wrap on a mature hardwood runs into the thousands. It's why tree work is quoted separately and why we measure at the design visit instead of guessing over the phone.
